Units/Credits for Mindful Schools Programs

Earn up to 12 semester units/credits of University Graduate-Level Professional Development for your completion of Mindful Schools Training or Workshops

Please Note: You must wait until you have completed the Workshop/Training before you register!

Two Simple Steps:

Step 1

Get to know the policies of your school district regarding graduate-level professional growth courses, due dates, etc.:
Some districts require prior approval and some don’t. Districts vary in policy regarding whether or not they require embossed transcripts, and districts have different turn-in dates for salary advancement.

It is your responsibility to know your own district’s policies regarding dates you must submit grade reports for salary advancement and regarding their policy in accepting grade reports versus formal transcripts. Please contact your personnel department for information.
Please note: It typically takes 6-8 weeks to obtain a transcript from the Registrar, so please plan to register and complete your coursework with this time frame in mind.

What information to provide your district should you need prior approval:
Generally districts ask for the name of the university, the course title and course number. If additional information is requested, you may add that all our University of the Pacific courses are Graduate-Level, Professional Development courses, designed as professional growth for teachers. The University of the Pacific is accredited with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. See the section below General Information Regarding Unit/Credit for more specific information about the type of credit we offer.

Step 2

Send in registration form, payment, Certificate of Completion, and a log of extra hours (explained below):

The registration process is quick and easy. The cost is only $93 per graduate-level professional development unit/credit. Thus, for 3 semester graduate-level units/credits, the total would be $279.

We will need four things from you:

(1) Completed Registration Form(s) – (Click here to go to the Registration Process)
(2) Payment – personal check, Visa, AMEX or MasterCard (separate payment per course)
(3) Certificate(s) of Completion from your Mindfulness program
(4) Log of extra hours of professional work, if applicable (explained below)

Explanation of “Log of extra work” needed:

If you are participating in a Mindful Schools Training/Workshop, you will likely fall short of the log hours required. You will, therefore, need to document extra hours of professional curriculum development work completed in the past 12 months and provide us with samples of your work. These hours of work do not need to be related to Mindful Schools, they do need to be professional activities, involving reading, research and/or curriculum development.

All together, the program hours plus extra professional work hours should equal the number of hours you need for graduate-level professional development units/credits: 15 hours to earn 1 semester unit/credit, 30 hours to earn 2 semester units/credits, and 45 hours to earn 3 semester units/credits.

Your log hours for each Mindful Schools Training/Workshop (Note: This should be the first entry on your log):
Mindfulness Fundamentals – 16 hours
Mindful Educator Essentials – 16 hours
Difficult Emotions – 16 hours
Mindful Communication – 20 hours

What should my log of extra hours look like?
Your log should note the specific activities you accomplished and with each log entry we need proof/documentation or explanation of what you say you did for that log entry.

4/11/17 Participated in Mindful Schools Training (certificate attached): 16 hours
4/12/17 Adapted curriculum to be incorporated to meet current teaching mandates: 4 hours

4/14/17 Read __________, page numbers: 3 hours

What activities count for my log?
You may log curriculum development work, reading or research that will enhance your classroom teaching.

Suggestions of excellent activities: read, researched, developed, created, previewed, revised. Example: one hour reading literature for your classroom, three hours designing lessons that integrate technology into your curriculum, one hour developing a rubric, one hour previewing a video on teaching reading, etc.

What activities do NOT count for my log?
You may not log prep work.
You may not log attendance at a workshop or conference that is not sponsored by Courses4Teachers.
You may not log work done at a school workshop or meeting.
You may not count correcting/grading papers, doing report cards, IEPs, photocopying, conferencing with parents, or meetings regarding specific students.

General Information regarding graduate-level professional development units/credits with the University of the Pacific:
States across the U.S. have different terminology to label this type of graduate-level professional development units/credits. It can be referred to as “professional growth,” “post-bachelor’s credit,” “continuing education,” “graduate units,” “graduate hours,” or “graduate credits.”

Regardless of the terminology, and in light of some confusion with semantics among different states, we want to make it clear that these graduate-level professional development courses are designed for professional growth and are available to teachers across the U.S. These courses will be listed on a University of the Pacific transcript. These courses are designed for salary advancement and to renew credentials. The courses are not designed towards attainment of an advanced degree. You are advised to check with your state board or attending university, prior to registering, if you wish to apply these graduate-level professional development units/credits towards attainment of specialty credentials. There are no refunds.

Grades and Transcript Information:

After you have mailed in your registration, Certificate of Completion, log of work and documentation, a confirmation of your grade will be emailed to you, from our Danville office on University letterhead within 5 business days. You will receive an unofficial transcript from the University of the Pacific Registrar in about 6-8 weeks. A few school districts require the unofficial transcript from the University for graduate-level professional development units/credits and salary increment credit. Most school districts require a formal, embossed, sealed Official Transcript.

Registration Process for Work Related to Mindful Schools Trainings & Workshops:

  1. Registration is open all year long
    Note: You must wait until you have completed the Workshop/Training before you register!
  2. Choose from one of the following course titles
    Each course title is available for 1, 2 or 3 semester graduate-level professional development units/credits.
    NOTE: Our titles do not match Mindful School Workshop titles. You need to use one of our course titles that we have filed with the University of the Pacific.

  3. If you wish more graduate-level professional development units/credits
    You may register for as many as 16 graduate-level professional develop development units/credits within a 4-month period. You’ll need to document 45 hours of work per 3 units/credits course title. A separate registration form is required for each course.
  4. Register by email or use regular mail – see below:
    Include the registration form with payment, Certificate of Completion, your log of extra activities (if needed) and samples.
  5. Obtain the registration form by following the directions given below
    You will need Adobe Reader™ to save and print out the form.

  2. Save the “editable” PDF to your desktop. (DO NOT fill it out before saving it to your desktop.)
  3. Fill out the form, save it again and attach the file, along with a scanned copy of your Certificate of Completion, log and samples of work. Email it to courses4teachers@courses4teachers.net. Please put “Mindful Schools Registration” in the subject field.

To Register by U.S. MAIL:

  2. Save the registration form to your desktop. If it is the “editable” version, fill it out, re-save it to your desktop, and print it out. If it is the “low tech” version, print it and then fill it out.
  3. Send the completed registration form, payment, a copy of your Certificate of Completion, and your log with samples to the address below.
